The court president, Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, Chief Ademola Odunade, has put an end to the relationship between a woman, Jelilat Mustapha and her husband, Mosheed Mustapha.

Jelilat had dragged her husband to court seeking that it terminates their eight-year-old relationship on the account of constant battery by the husband.

Mosheed, when the claims were read to him, acceded to divorce.

Odunade after listening to the couple observed that their marriage had broken down irrevocably. Giving his judgment, he dissolved their marriage and granted custody of the first two children to the defendant and the last to the plaintiff.

Mosheed was directed to be responsible for their last child’s general welfare. According to Odunade, he was to give N4, 000 monthly for his food.

“My lord, I have come to court so that an end can be put to the marriage between me and my husband.

“I never knew peace all the time I was with him. We were always fighting. He would beat me and throw my belongings out.

“We once fought and he gathered my clothes together, poured kerosene on them and would have burnt them if not for my father who restricted him.

“He sent me packing and I moved in with my parents. I took our children along. He cared less how we were surviving. My father went to speak with him, calling him to his responsibility but he insulted my father.

“He later came for our first and second children but failed to take proper care of them. Whenever I checked on them or buy them new things, he would get angry and warn his mother not to open his door to me. He would also come to my shop to beat me.

”The last I did, he beat me and stripped me naked. His mother also told me he broke her arm for allowing me to see our children.

My lord, I want our first two children to be in his care while the last is put in my custody, “the plaintiff stated.

“My lord, I accede to divorce because she is married and pregnant for another man.

“She was fond of moving with bad friends. These made her to misbehave at home.

“She was also in the habit of moving her belongings out of my house any time we quarreled. The day she finally left, we departed from home peacefully after I had given her money to make a fresh pot of soup. On returning in the evening, I met an empty house with our wedding pictures littering the floor. Some of my clothes were also in shreds.

“I went to her mother who pretended not to know anything about her action. It was her father who told me she has moved to her new husband’s place which was ten houses to mine. I learnt he actually came with her to pack her belongings from my place.

“I went to her parents’ house to take two of our children and left the youngest with her, “he concluded.
