A BULAWAYO man yesterday dragged his wife to court for denying him conjugal rights for several months and physically abusing him in front of their three year-old child.
Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube heard this when John Shava applied for a protection order against his wife, Bekezela Ncube.
According to the Chronicle, Shava told the court that his wife was in the habit of physically abusing him and insulting him using vulgar language in front their child and denying him conjugal rights.
“Your Worship I am customarily married to Bekezela Ncube and we have been together for three years. I am applying for a protection order against her because she harasses me in front of our three year old child. We last had sex several months ago because she doesn’t want to sleep with me thereby denying me conjugal rights,” he said.
“She does want to do household chores anymore and she also has become a threat to my life and I don’t want her to visit my workplace at Egodini flea market.”
In her defence, Ncube denied that she physically abused her husband.
“Your Worship, my husband is actually lying. In fact he is the one who is in the habit of assaulting me and recently I was paralysed after he brutally assaulted me.
“I reported the matter to the police but had to later withdraw when he apologised and I accepted because he is my husband and I love him,” she said.
Dube postponed ruling on the matter to February 13 and referred the couple to Msasa Project for counselling.
