A ZIMUNYA man is alleged to have attempted to rape his brother’s new wife.
Samuel Mamvura (25) denied the charges when he appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Sekai Chiundura last week. He was remanded in custody to yesterday. Mamvura was denied bail as the State feared that he might interfere with witnesses. Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.
“At around 10pm on January 26 in the absence of her husband, the complainant who was fast asleep felt something heavy on top of her. She woke up.
“She noticed that there was someone on top of her who was touched her breasts at the same time trying to remove her panties.
“She noticed that it was her brother-in-law, Samuel Mamvura who was trying to rape her, holding her firmly with his hands,” said Mr Karombe.
The complainant tried to push Mamvura, but they ended up falling on the floor together. It was further alleged that the complainant screamed loudly leading to the accused person running away.
A report was made to Mamvura’s father and then to the police.
“Your Worship, I am still wondering why the complainant, my brother’s wife would lie to the police that I attempted to rape her when clearly I did not commit the offence,” he stated.
Asked on why the complainant would have lied against him, Mamvura told the court that he was suspecting family feuds and hatred.
