A man masquerading as a prophet with powers to cleanse evil spirits planted a goblin under the bed of a desperate female client and extorted $10 from her.
The incident happened on December 23 and at around 8am.
Rose Mudondo was looking for a Form One place for her son at Mbizi High School.
According to state media reports, her son had bleeding issues and requested to visit a prophet to get assistance.
The pair met Ranganai Mupfumi, who presented himself as a prophet.
Mupfumi then said the boy might suffer from a mental illness hence the issue needed to be solved at his parents house in Highfield.
While in the house, Mupfumi suddenly “picked up a goblin” under the bed and told Mudondo that it needed to be burnt so she had to pay for the job that he had done.
However, Mudondo had no money to pay him and Mupfumi threatened to leave the goblin at her house.
Out of fear, Mudondo borrowed some money and gave Mupfumi $10 but he demanded more.
That raised alarm bells and Mudondo sought help from her neighbours.
It was then that they realized that Mupfumi was a fake prophet and that he was the one who planted the goblin under the bed.
A report was filed with police leading to his arrest.
The goblin was produced in court as evidence.
He was ordered to pay $50 fine or spend 15 days in prison.
