An 18 year old Marondera boy has been sentenced to four months in prison for stealing undergarments belonging to his aunt.
Shelton Muderere of Chipesa in Marondera was found guilty by Marondera magistrate Tatenda Makwanya of stealing undergarments belonging to his aunt and giving them to their neighbour.
He pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced to 4 months in prison of which one month was suspended on condition he pays back the cost of the undergarments which were not recovered while the other month was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
His co-accused 45 year old Shallet Metsengi who is alleged to have been receiving the stolen undergarments pleaded not guilty and her trial continues on the 28th of this month.
According to the state led by public prosecutor Emmanuel Dera Muderere who stays in the same house with the complainant connived with the female neighbour to steal his aunt’s undergarments during the period between May and November this year.
The offence came to light when Muderere was seen stealing a nappy from the washing line and upon being quizzed admitted to stealing the nappy and undergarments which he said he gave to Metsengi.
Investigations were carried out and revealed that he had stolen 17 petticoats and 2 panties from his aunt and given them to Metsengi.
