THE Jigawa State Police Commissioner, Mr Raheed O Akintunde confirmed the arrest and detention of a Police sergeant and an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), for allegedly raping a divorced woman at Maigatari local government area of Jigawa State.
The Police boss who spoke through the command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdu Jinjiri, said: “Yes we received the report and the suspects where in detention at the criminal investigation department.”
According to the state’s police command, the victim lodged complains at the Maigatari police station and the accused persons were arrested and now in their custody.
Akintude maintained that “the investigation is in progress, a team of investigators had visited the area in respect of this case and the police force would treat the case in accordance with the police law and constitution of the public republic of Nigeria.”
He gave the name of the victim as Maigatari, while the suspects were sergeant Jamilu Muhammad and Habu Musa who is the NSCDC operative.
Reports from the state indicated that the Sergeant Jamilu and Habu left their beat duty at night and go on illegal patrol in the Maigatari town the headquarter of Maigatari local government area where they met the lady talking with a man suspected her boyfriend discussion, they arrested them and allegedly demanded the sum of N10,000 to allow them go.
Speaking to newsmen the victim, Maigatari,said “none of us has such amount they (the security personals) accused me of a married woman have affairs with another man. I told them that I’m a divorcee whom as mean evidence I go back home and picked my divorce letter where they held the letter and the motorcycle of the man and they insisted on the N10,000 bribe. I said I don’t have, I have only N500.”
According to her they latter allow the other man to go where they said: “Since I didn’t have the money in cash, I should pay them in kind or to take action against me.”
He added that they forced her to an uncompleted build and allegedly raped her.
