A 21-year-old Chipinge woman has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for burning her six-year-old stepdaughter’s private parts several times.
Constance Maphosa of Nyikadzino Village, Chipinge, was convicted on her own plea of guilty by Mr Makamera Waini, who suspended three months of the sentence on condition she does not commit any offence involving violence in the next five years.
Prosecuting, Mr Witness Nyamundaya said on September 25 this year, Constance Maphosa arrived home and insulted the stepdaughter after accusing her of assaulting her own child.
“After assaulting the girl, she dragged her to a fireplace and forced her to lie down on her back.
“She removed her undergarments and used force to open her legs. She took a burning wood and burnt the hapless child’s private parts,” he said.
She was caught in the act and the matter was reported to the police leading to her arrest.
The girl sustained injuries and was taken to Mt Selinda Mission Hospital where she was treated.
