A woman, Aminat Ademola has brought a suit before Ile Tuntun Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking the dissolution of her three-year-old marriage to her husband, Morufu Ademola, a politician.
Aminat who is a trader, in her suit alleged that her husband was a liar, uncaring, irresponsible and had abandoned his role as breadwinner.
“My husband has the blood of a typical Nigerian politician flowing in his veins. He has a sugar coated tongue and he is deceitful.
“When I met my husband, he promised me heaven and earth. He promised to take care of me and the children we were going to have and also set up a lucrative business for me.
“When he told me these, I concluded that my future was made.
“He doted on me throughout the time we were courting.
“I always had enough money and lacked nothing materially. I eagerly agreed to his marriage proposal, “she stated.
“Few months into our marriage, my husband changed completely.
“He started showing disinterest in our relationship.
“He would go out and come in late without giving any explanation or apology.
“If I dare ask him where he went, he would turn it into a fight.
“He didn’t fulfill his promise to set up a lucrative business for me and wasn’t interested in how I had been surviving, “she added.
“Our child suffered most for his irresponsible act. My husband was never committed to our son as a father.
“I can’t recollect a time he left him feeding allowance or that he gave me money to buy him clothes.
“Despite the fact that our child was sickly, I could count the number of times he carried him in his arms and played with him.
“When I realised his health was deteriorating, I took him to the hospital for medical attention.
“Several tests were carried out on our baby and us; it was then discovered that my husband and I both share the same genotype, AS. Our baby’s genotype is SS which explains why he is often sick.
“My husband on hearing this abandoned us. He left home and never came back.
“I packed my belongings out of our rented apartment and moved to my parents’ house with our baby when our rent was due.
“He didn’t tell his parents the state of our child’s health and lied to them that the landlord sent us packing because I fought with him.
“His parents asked him to rent an apartment for me, but he refused. He told them he had no money and that I should move to his family house which I didn’t agree to.
“My lord, I’m tired of our relationship. My husband has succeeded in frustrating me, please separate us, “the plaintiff prayed the court.
The defendant refused to show up in court after being served a court hearing twice.
After listening to the plaintiff, the court president, Chief Agbaje Olasunkanmi, ordered that another court hearing be served the defendant.
He then adjourned the case till June 19 for further hearing.
