My husband refused to create time for intimacy between us, but ran after everything in skirt, woman tells court
court, husband, wife, man, woman“My lord, my life has taken a new turn since I got married to my husband in 2014. My once vibrant and joyous life now aches with pain and sorrow, all because I got married to a wolf in sheep clothing.”
kemi Ola had brought a divorce suit against her husband, Gbenga Asogbon at Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The plaintiff in her suit stated that her husband was irresponsible, jobless and adulterous, adding that he had succeeded in frustrating her.
She, therefore, appealed to the court to dissolve their marriage so that she can start her life afresh.
The defendant refused to come to court after being served hearing notice twice.
“All I request from this court is to please terminate my marriage to my husband and set me free from the trap I walked into.
“My experience since I got married to my husband two years ago is, to say the least, traumatic. He kept his real self from me while we were dating; he was calm , cultured and nice to be with. He dotted on me and I was then the envy of my friends.
“Two weeks into our marriage I began to see a new side of him. Rather than give me feeding allowance, he started beating me and giving me punches especially in the face.
“He neglected me and would go out without a mention of where he was going and would always return home late. Any complaint I made would always earn me severe beatings.
“We were gradually drifting apart because of the strain in our relationship. I sought every means to have his audience that we might iron issues out but he never gave the opportunity.
“We lived together like strangers while he behaved as if I never existed.
“He has strings of girlfriends and he was in the habit of taking them to parties, clubs and joints and lavishing money on them.
“Things became worse when he lost his job in 2015. He felt threatened and became more aggressive. He, therefore, built a wall round himself. I did all I could to please him but he rebuffed all my efforts.
“We are yet to have a child but he’s not concerned and never created that opportunity to express our emotions or develop our intimacy.
“I packed my belongings and left his house because he never ceased to beat and harm me, “Kemi told the court.
Listening to the plaintiff’s evidence and considering the fact that the defendant refused to come to court after being served a court hearing twice, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade observed that the relationship between the duo had broken down irretrievably.
Ruling, he dissolved their marriage.
