Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.” Luke 7:39
It is easy to try and imagine the mood in the room that day in the house of the Pharisee who had invited Jesus over for dinner; Jesus was sitting in the midst of people who felt they deserved to be in His presence because of the quality of life they lived. They were righteous in their own eyes and they sure knew those who were sinners and unrighteous in their community. So the silence that engulfed the room as the woman walked in was expected; she was a woman of easy virtue and it was wrong for her to show up in a gathering of upright decent people who were having a good time. They grumbled expecting the Lord to accuse her of being a sinner just as He had accused the Pharisees of being hypocrites. But the Lord was not in court and the woman was certainly not on trial. So, she walked over to where Jesus was sited and began to weep at His feet. She saw she was making a mess with all her tears so in the absence of a towel, she used her hair to dry His feet and some of the Pharisee who was hosting Jesus was disgusted and said to himself that if Jesus was indeed a prophet he would have known the kind of woman she was. He should have seen that she was a prostitute.
But Omniscient Jesus decided to address the Pharisee’s criticism with the story of debtors which explained why those who received the greatest pardon expressed the greatest love. The woman needed forgiveness and salvation and she was not going to let her past life of sin stop her from getting it. She certainly must have heard about the story of the woman caught in adultery and how her accusers had walked away because Jesus had simply said whoever is not guilty of sin amongst them should casts the first stone. That must have been an eye-opener for her; all of the religious people accusing her were also guilty. Thus she decided not to let her mistakes and sins of the past control her and stop her from receiving the new life she desperately needed. What about you? Are you nursing guilt about things and is the guilt you feel stopping you from growing in your relationship with God? Don’t let the mistakes and disappointments from the past control and direct your future. It’s a new day with glorious opportunities to move on up in life; don’t let sin and guilt pull you back. The bible says if we confess our sins God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Liberation thought: God buried my sins in the depth of the sea and removed guilt for away from me
