The narcotics police on Thursday seized 101 kilogrammes of cocaine with a street value of $127 million in Portmore, St. Catherine.
The seizure of the cocaine followed a high speed chase involving the police and the suspect transporting the drugs.
The cops reported that shortly after 5 o’clock Thursday morning, they were conducting anti-narcotics operations in Portmore when they intercepted a white Nissan AD Wagon motorcar at the Southborough round-about.
In a bid to escape, the driver crashed in the round-about.
He then drove the damaged vehicle along Southborough Drive where it was intercepted by the police.
The driver, who was the lone occupant, reportedly exited the vehicle with a gun in his hand. He dropped the weapon and escaped.
The firearm, a nine millimetre Glock Pistol with a magazine containing 17 rounds of ammunition, was seized by the police.
During a search of the vehicle, four carton boxes with 92 parcels with cocaine were discovered in the trunk of the vehicle.
The narcotics police are now conducting operations at locations associated with the suspect.
