THE police are on the hunt for a 17-year-old boy suspected to be behind Monday’s gruesome murder of an 11-month-old child in Kingston Central.

“Based on the information we have, this teenager is known to frequent Luke Lane and surrounding areas and we want to use this opportunity to call on the accused to turn himself in to the police,” Deputy Superintendent Percival Anderson, head of the Kingston Central Police Division, told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.

According to the police, at around 11:20 am on Monday, a man was standing along Chancery Lane when he was attacked by another man armed with a gun.

Reports are that the man, in a bid to escape, ran into a yard. The gunman, who was in hot pursuit, fired several shots at the man.

Eleven-month-old Omar Lindo, who was being bathed by his mother in the yard, was fatally shot during the attack.

“I heard the shots and thought it was out on the road but… I heard my baby scream,” Omar’s mother, Rosanna Rose, told the Observer.

“As soon as mi hear the baby cry out mi look and see blood ah ooze from out ah him chest. I tried to stop the bleeding but it just wouldn’t stop. All the water that I was bathing him in turn red,” said the 29-year-old woman.

Desperate and running out of options, Rose said she screamed at the top of her voice, picked up her child, and started running towards the hospital.

The distraught mother said her anger and frustration grew when she realised that police were at the other end of the road when the shots were being fired, but none assisted her wounded son to the hospital.

“All mi ah run, I could feel the life going out of my baby,” said Rose.

“All mi life I said I would protect him and to see that I was there; it’s not like I left him and go anywhere and to see him killed in my hands, oh God!” the mother wailed.

Yesterday Member of Parliament for the West Kingston Desmond McKenzie condemned the act and called on the police to leave no stone unturned in their search for the suspect.

  1. My child is sleeping on my back as I type this comment. I feel bad for the mother, hope she knows he is in a safer place with the Lord. I can’t imagine the pain she is going through.
