17YO WEST KINGSTON TEEN ON MURDER CHARGES

The police say the teenager who was taken into custody on Sunday in West Kingston is a suspect in a murder.

The 17 year old boy was held during a police operation in the area. The operation resulted in a stand-off between some residents and the police.

Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the JCF’s Corporate Communications Unit, said the teenager was one of four persons taken into custody.

She said the teen will now have to attain a lawyer, or one will be provided to him, after which a determination will be made whether to charge him for murder.

The police, in the meantime, are maintaining a close watch on the area.

They believe there has been an upsurge in crime in Orange Street and Luke Lane since the return of a member of the community who had been taken into custody.

Superintendent Lindsay said personnel from the Community Safety and Security unit are patrolling the community.
