27 YO GANG RECRUITER IN AUGUST TOWN CHARGED

August Town man charged for recruiting gang members

The leader of an August Town-based criminal network, who is accused of recruiting men to his gang in the community, has been charged by the police.

George Ellis, 27, was charged last week under the anti-gang legislation.

Investigators have accused Mr. Ellis of recruiting men for the “No Dollars No Cent” gang based in Hermitage, August Town, St. Andrew.

He has been charged with being a participant in a criminal organisation, recruiting persons for the organisation, establishing a criminal organisation and facilitating serious offences by being involved in a criminal organisation.

Mr. Ellis, who is represented by attorney Vincent Wellesley, is booked to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Wednesday.

His arrest comes in the wake of a major push by the authorities and civic groups to sustain the reduction in criminal activities in August Town.

Mr. Ellis is also awaiting trial for a 2015 shooting in August Town and a February 3, 2012 incident in which he allegedly fired at the police.
