Three Jamaicans facing deportation from Bahamas
Three Jamaicans are to be deported from the Bahamas after being charged with breaching the Immigration Act.
They were charged last week along along with a Bahamian businessman in the Freeport Magistrate’s Court.
The Jamaicans have been identified as 53 year-old Alexander Brown, 47 year-old Calvin Brown and 37 year-old Binion Woolery.
The Bahamian – 71 year-old Allan Newman – was charged with employing persons without obtaining work permits.
The accused, who initially pleaded not guilty, changed his plea to guilty.
It is alleged that the three Jamaicans were found doing renovations to a restaurant operated by Newman.
The Jamaicans, who had initially pleaded not guilty, also changed their pleas to guilty.
Each was ordered to pay a fine of $3,000 Bahamian dollars or serve 18 months in prison.
The magistrate also ordered the Jamaicans to be deported.
