The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has distanced itself from four candidates in the upcoming local government elections, declaring that they do not represent the party nor are they members of the party.
In a news release Tuesday, JLP identified the four candidates as Answerd Ramcharan, Donna Malahoo-Bowen, Keith Donaldson, and Albert Lee.
The party’s general secretary, Horace Chang, said that any member of the JLP who “nominates against an approved candidate for the JLP” ceases to be a member of the party by that act.
He added that the four independent candidates have no support from the party and should not be considered associated with or working in the interest of the party.
Malahoo-Bowen, who is the sister of Jamaica’s attorney general and Member of Parliament for St James West Central Marlene Malahoo-Forte, offered herself as a candidate to represent Riverside Division in Hanover.
