7 arrested on suspicion of lottery scamming


ST JAMES, Jamaica — Seven people were this morning arrested by detectives from the Major Organised Crime and Anit-Corruption Agency during an operation in sections of St James and Westmoreland.

Reports are that at about 5:00 am, a team of MOCA officials along with other members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jamaica Defence Force and the Financial Investigation Divisions carried out several raids to target individuals involved in the illicit lottery scam.

MOCA in a release today said that several premises in Farm Hill and Farm Heights in St James as well as premises in Bethel Town, Logwood and Coral Springs in Westmoreland were searched, resulting in a number of items used in lottery scamming being seized.

The release added that the detained individuals are expected to be interviewed in the presence of their attorneys, following which charges will be laid.
