Elderly man drowns in Sandy Gully

The body of an elderly man who was on Thursday swept away by flood waters in the Sandy Gully in St. Andrew was found Friday morning.

He has been identified as 79 year old George Marshall of Manning’s Hill Road.

Mr. Marshall’s grandson, Dwayne Campbell told RJR News that about 3 p.m., the elderly man was pruning a tree on the property where he works, when he fell into the gully.

Mr. Marshall was swept away by the strong currents.

Mr. Campbell said several residents in communities along the gully tried to assist the elderly man but the currents were too strong.
Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force Corporate Communications Unit says the body of Mr. Marshall was found by the police in Patrick City, St. Andrew Friday morning.
