800LBS OF GANJA FOUND IN ST THOMAS

A man is in custody following the seizure of more than 800 pounds of ganja in St. Thomas on Sunday.

The ganja, which has a street value of $2 million, was found along with a boat in Holland Bay.

Two containers with fifteen gallons of petrol were also seized.

It is reported that the police were near the Morant Point lighthouse where they spotted five men.

Four of them escaped.

Seventeen bags and six plastic buckets containing the compressed ganja were found on the boat.

The police theorise that the ganja was being prepared for export to Haiti as part of the drugs for guns trade.

The police believe the men were prevented from leaving Jamaica because of poor weather conditions.

Sergeant Damian Harry of the St. Thomas Police said his team will continue to target drug smugglers.

“We are saying to these criminal elements, desist from being apart from this guns for drugs trade because the St. Thomas Police especially, we are very vigilant. We are fully aware that our borders are being exploited where the guns for drugs trade is concerned, and for 2018, we will be going all out to ensure that we secure our borders,” he warned.
