The Office of the Children’s Advocate has said the mother of the nine year-old girl who was reportedly raped at the Strathmore Gardens Children’s Home in St. Catherine visited her daughter on Friday.
Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison, last week took issue with the woman not being able to see her child.
But in an interview with RJR News Monday morning, Mrs Gordon Harrison said the woman expressed concern about the visit being supervised.
“She didn’t get to speak to her child in confidence…or have the one-on-one time because there was a children’s officer who was there monitoring what was happening between the two of them,” Mrs Gordon Harrison explained.
The Children’s Advocate noted that although there was no “hard and fast” rule regarding supervisions in cases such as these, she is still trying to ascertain why this method was chosen in this specific case.
“It all depends on the circumstances. I certainly have reached out to the CPFSA to get a specific response as to not just this but other particular aspects that deal with this particular case, and I’m awaiting their response,” said Mrs Gordon Harrison, who added that she would continue to monitor progress of the investigation as well as keep in touch with the child’s mother.
