A man was convicted last week for trespassing in a restricted area at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus.
The court heard that at approximately 2:15 am, the accused was found in a section of the Mona School of Business which is restricted to lecturers and students.
Claiming he did not know it was a restricted area, the man pleaded guilty to the charge.
Having no business with the university, as he was neither a student nor worker at the institution, Parish Judge Judith Pusey asked his reason for being there.
“A drop me drop asleep miss,” he responded. “Cause me did go play mi guitar an ting up there in di evening.”
When asked who he played the instrument with, the man responded: “A me one play miss, me did a practise.”
He was instructed to pay a fine of $10,000 or serve six months in prison.
