Tsholotsho man ran berserk and assaulted his wife when he found herbs in his bath water.
Jothan Moyo from Mcetshwa Village under Chief Sipepa lost his temper when his wife, Loice Mudenda failed to give him a satisfactory explanation with regards to the herbs he found in his bath water.
Proceedings to the incident where a case of domestic violence nearly turned tragic are that on 20 January this year at around 4pm, Moyo who had spent some days away from home arrived and quickly ordered his wife to prepare some water so that he could bath.
Mudenda, without asking her husband where he had been for the past days, quickly put the water in a bucket and subsequently took it to a makeshift bathroom at their homestead.
Trouble started when Moyo found herbs in his bath water.
Suspicion having got the better of him, he called his wife and asked her to explain the origins and purpose of the herbs.
Mudenda reportedly failed to explain how the herbs found their way into her husband’s bath water, leading the latter to suspect they were charms to bewitch him.
As a result a misunderstanding ensued between the two parties in which Moyo accused his wife of practising witchcraft while also claiming that the charms were meant to “fix” or kill him.
In a fit of anger, Moyo reportedly bashed his wife with fists all over the body and she sustained injuries.
The wife reported the matter to the police, leading to her husband’s arrest.
For the offence he was dragged before Tsholotsho resident magistrate Victor Mpofu to answer to charges of physical abuse as defined in section 3 (1) (a) of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.
Moyo, however, escaped a possible jail sentence when his wife decided to withdraw the charges before plea.
While withdrawing the charges Mudenda said she had decided to forgive her husband after he asked for forgiveness adding that she had also realised that if he was jailed there would be no one to look after the family since he was the sole bread winner.
If him beat yuh kill yuh. .getting bread would be the least of ur worries lady smh.
