The case against Gregory Roberts and Mario Morrison, the two men charged with murder in relation to the death of 15-year-old Green Pond High School student Shineka Gray earlier this year, has been committed for hearing in the St James Circuit Court next January.
The case was committed following a hearing in the St James Parish Court on Tuesday to determine the next step for the case’s progression to trial.
“The case was committed to the Circuit Court for the January sitting. Both of the accused men were remanded in custody,” said attorney-at-law Martyn Thomas, who was part of the men’s defence team at the Parish Court level.
The committal hearing had originally been scheduled for last Monday but was put on hold because Parish Judge Sandria Wong-Small, before whom the hearing was scheduled to take place, was absent from court that day.
Found Dead
Gray, who was a resident of Mt Salem in St James and a grade-10 student at the Green Pond High School in the parish, was found dead in bushes in the Irwin community on February 1, three days after she went missing while returning from the funeral of a schoolmate. Her body had multiple stab wounds.
Following police investigations, Roberts and Morrison were taken into custody and questioned. They were subsequently arrested and charged with the schoolgirl’s murder.
