Bermuda police have made two arrests after a 30-year-old Jamaican man was murdered as he “ran for his life” from a lone gunman who chased him through the back streets of Pembroke parish.
Morlan Steede, who was married and the father of a four-year-old daughter, was shot several times before collapsing in the middle of Parsons Road on the outskirts of Hamilton.
Police said on Wednesday that two local men had been arrested in connection with the murder of Steede, known to his friends as “Clappa”. The police last Friday night confirmed they were looking at the possibility that the killing was related to a drugs feud.
One man in his early 20s has since been released on police bail, while the other man in his mid-20s is still in custody.
The Bermuda authorities told a news conference that Steede was not known to police.
“This was a senseless killing of a father and husband.”
Steede’s death marks Bermuda’s third gun killing and fifth murder of 2017.
