A-15-month old baby girl was raped and beaten to death on Wednesday. The suspect is a 17-year-old relative.
Baby Raquel George was found bruised and bleeding by her mother at the family home in Palo Seco.
The child’s mother, Sharlene George, 44, found the child lifeless when she returned from work on Wednesday night.
Police said when she questioned the teen relative, he did not respond but walked out of the house.
The child was taken to the Siparia Health Centre where she doctors fought to save her life.
However she was pronounced dead at 11.18 p.m.
Officers of the Santa Flora Police Station detained the teenager on Thursday.
He was taken to the Oropouche Police Station and was to be handed over to Homicide detectives.

An autopsy performed on Thursday at the Forensic Sciences Centre found that the child died of blunt force trauma to the head.
The girl’s hymen was ruptured.
Bruises and scratches were also found on her face, chest, and thighs.
The child’s mother is a police officer at the Environmental Management Authority in Chaguanas.
