MAN TAKEN TO COURT FOR STEALING TWO BOTTLES OF HONEY

Man to be tried for allegedly stealing two bottles of honey

A man accused of stealing two bottles of honey from a supermarket in Kingston and hiding it in his trousers is to go on trial on Monday.

Andre Bennett, 49, of a Kingston address, was remanded last Friday after he pleaded not guilty to simple larceny.

The court heard that on August 24, about 7:30 pm, Bennett, while leaving, was searched by the security guard and the two bottles of honey were found in his trousers.

But Bennett told Parish Judge Broderick Smith that he did not steal the items.

“I didn’t take anything, I take them up but I put them back on the shelf,” he said.

“I was shopping and I bought some things,” Bennett continued.

“Meaning you went to the cashier and cash those things?” the judge asked.

“Yes.” Bennett replied.

“I take up the honey but I put it back long time before me cash,” he insisted.
