Dunstan Whittingham, President of the Jamaica Vendors’, Higglers’ and Markets Association, has cried foul at what he says is the unfair treatment of the association’s members by the authorities when they bring in goods from China.
Mr. Whittingham said the goods are being detained by Customs or stores raided as they are being labelled as counterfeit.
However, he said this should not be so because China makes goods at five different levels and has the rights to the major brands worldwide, “so when they buy a brand or a trademark, they have that right.”
Mr. Whittingham said the issue has made this Christmas season a miserable one for some members whose goods have been seized and classified as counterfeit, meanwhile major wholesalers are clearing the same items without issue.
Mr. Whittingham said he will be seeking to have dialogue with the relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to address the matter.
He argued that, if the goods are considered counterfeit, the Government should target the sources in China instead.

Most all authentic items now are manufactured in china even Gucci stop Italy was to expensive !! Open your eyes i thing Jamaica should focus on more things .
