ANGER DESTROYS
So Moses took the rod from before the Lord as He commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock; and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?” Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank. Numbers 20:9 – 11
Anger is a universal vice that cuts across age, class, tribe, tongue and race. There seems to be a universal understanding of the fact that people do get angry and find ways to express it. For some people, this opportunity leads to verbal fights and often to physical fights that bring destruction. Anger is the root of so many other vices that limit our capacity to enjoy the fullness of our oneness with Christ.
Anger management has become a viable consultancy that enjoys huge patronage all over the world. But as it is in all other areas of our lives, we have a choice to become angry or not. In the face of provocation, God’s children must take responsibility for their actions. Of course, we have no control over the actions of others but we are expected to have and exercise control over our actions. Moses did the great job of leading the children of Israel out of Egypt. It was a divine mission that fostered intimacy between him and God; God even nominated him as the meekest man on earth. But a fit of anger caused Moses to disobey and disrespect God and that cost him his place in the Promised Land. Moses died before entering the Promised Land because he chose to be angry and frustrated by the rebellious ones in the wilderness. Having gallantly begun and ran the race to his destination, his journey was cut short by anger. God forbid that this should happen to anyone of you! God forbid that any of you will yield to anger at the expense of your divine destiny. Make a conscious effort today not to choose anger, irrespective of the provocation. I rebuke every spirit of anger that is threatening the accomplishment of your destiny, in the mighty name of Jesus.
Liberation thought: I refuse to be offended by anyone or anything!
