Customs brokers are bracing for a pile up of cargo at Jamaica’s ports due to problems again plaguing the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA).
The Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association of Jamaica says the system has been experiencing interruptions and this has disrupted the processing and clearance of shipments. It says despite assurances on Wednesday by Jamaica Customs that the system has been restored and a one-hour extension of opening hours, transactions are still being disrupted.
Marcia Bent, President of the Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association of Jamaica, says the members and their customers are incurring financial losses due to the problems She noted that no user to the system could gain access.
So why it taking so long to resolve?
