A man accused of holding up a woman in Half-Way-Tree, St Andrew with a knife and robbing her of a gold chain before fleeing told the court that he is being wrongfully accused, as he is seriously ill and unable to run.
Christopher Woodstock was arrested and charged with robbery with aggravation after he was allegedly pointed out by the complainant when he was taken to the police station shortly after the incident.
“Your Honour, that is not me; I cannot run. Right now I am feeling serious pain in my bottom and penis,” Woodstock said,
“One of mi tripe long out of mi so, and one short so,” he said while gesturing with his two hands, to indicate the length.
The accused then pulled up his shirt showing the court a large bandage on the front of his stomach.
“Mi caan run,” he said, but did not indicate what had caused his illness.
“The facility mi into, mi caan manage, mi feeling pain from mi bladder go right down to where me urinate,” he added.
Woodstock also told the court that he was never pointed out by the complainant and that when the police held him they kept asking him to give them the name of a man.
Judge Vaughn Smith, as a result, gave instructions for Woodstock to get medical attention and rescheduled the matter for the complainant, who was absent, to appear in court.
Woodstock’s bail was then extended for him to return on December 13.
The court heard that on November 15, at 1:10 pm, the complainant was on the road in the vicinity of Mandela Park when she felt a knife at her neck.
She reportedly turned around and saw the accused who told her “Man a bad man, gimme yuh chain, mi wi kill yuh.”
The accused then grabbed the complainant’s chain, leaving behind a part of the item of jewellery which fell into the complainant’ bosom.
The complainant reportedly raised an alarm and reported the matter to the police. While she was at the station she saw the accused being taken in.
