COWS STOLEN FOUND IN THE OTHER DISTRICT

The Clarendon police are reminding farmers to remain vigilant and to continue to work with them in clamping down on praedial larceny in the parish.

This reminder comes in light of the most recent attempt by thieves to deprive a farmer of his cows on Thursday, May 21.

Reports are that about 1:30 am, a farmer was alerted by a loud noise in the direction of where his cows were tied. When he got to the area he noticed that five of his six cows were missing and raised an alarm.

An extensive searched was carried out by the police, the farmer, other farmers, and community members who later found them in an adjoining community.

The cattle are said to value about J$800,000.

No one was taken into custody, however, the investigations are continuing, the police say.

When OBSERVER ONLINE tried to find out the names of the communities involved, the police were tight-lipped, saying they could not release that information to the media.

The police also reminded farmers to register themselves as well as their animals with the Rural Agricultural Development Agency (RADA) so that their animals can be issued with passports and have their DNA taken and placed in a database which allows them to be identified if stolen and recovered.

To report Praedial Larceny contact The Praedial Larceny Unit at 927-1731-50, Crime Stop at 311, police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station as well as the use Stay Alert App, which can be downloaded on smartphones for free from Google Playstore.
