French police have confirmed the discovery of the body of a 43-year-old national of Montserrat, floating off the shores of Guadeloupe earlier this week.
The authorities believe that Kenrick Fenton, a fisherman, may have been beheaded in a drug deal that had gone sour on the French island.
In 2010, Fenton, who lived here, was freed on drug charges in Antigua after his co-accused, Owen McDowal, a national of St Vincent and the Grenadines, pleaded guilty to possession of EC$2.1 million (One EC dollar = US$0.37 cents) worth of marijuana and sentenced to the 16 months he had spent in jail awaiting trial.
Media reports said that in 2003, Fenton and six other fishermen from Antigua were lost at sea and later picked up and detained by Jamaican authorities.
He remained in custody for more than three months without being charged after telling lawmen in Jamaica that he was a national of Antigua and Barbuda.
