FAMILY OF MENTALLY ILL MAN KILLED IN RUNAWAY BAY WANTS INVESTIGATION

The family of a man, said to be of unsound mind, who was shot dead by a security guard at the staff quarters of the Bahia Principe Hotel in Runaway Bay, St. Ann earlier this month is calling for further investigations into the circumstances which caused his death.

It is alleged that he was shot while being subdued after he breached the fence to the hotel.

According to reports, the security guard tried to accost the man, but he began throwing stones and would not relent.

The guard reportedly fired a shot or shots, hitting the man. He was pronounced dead at St. Ann’s Bay Hospital.

But the sister of the deceased, Shaneika White, said her brother has never had a history of mental illness.

She said she is still confused by the sequence of events that led to his death.

“Why would you want to shoot a nude man with stones?” she questioned, suggesting instead the guard could have shot him in the leg to main him.

She has urged the authorities to continue their investigation into the case.
