FEMALE DETAINEE DIES IN ST ANDREW PARISH COURT LOCK UP

Female detainee found dead in holding area at St. Andrew Parish Court

Investigators are probing the circumstances which led to the death of a female detainee in the holding area of the St. Andrew Parish Court.

She has been identified as Desrine Morris.

Ms Morris was taken into custody on Thursday on a bench warrant.

She was later discovered dead.

Senior Superintendent Jacqueline Green, Commanding Officer for the St. Andrew Central Police Division, told RJR News that when police went to fetch Ms Morris for her court appearance, they found her in the cell with a sweater wrapped around her neck and unto a grill door.

She was released and taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Inspectorate of Constabulary as well as INDECOM are conducting an investigation.

  1. This is so sad. It doesn’t matter what she was charged with. The officers on duty should be disciplined for not checking the cell periodically. Kmt
