FIRE AT BUSTAMANTE HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN

OBSERVER ONLINE is reporting that a fire earlier this evening (Thursday January 12) at the Bustamante Children’s Hospital for Children caused some panic but according to a well-informed source at the institution there were only minor damages but lots of smoke.

The fire is said to have started at approximately 8:00 pm in the section of the hospital which houses the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but fortunately the fire was away from where the occupants of the unit were located at the time.

The source further told OBSERVER ONLINE that one heroic nurse broke the glass section of the door of the ICU thereby allowing herself, fellow nurses, janitors, porters and security guards to enter and rescue the four children who were said to be inside the unit at the time of the fire, which was believed to be caused by a malfunctioning air conditioning unit.

Though the fire wasn’t considered to be a large one, it is said to have produced large amounts of smoke leading to two police officers being treated for smoke inhalation.

The rescued children were unaffected by the fire and have been moved to another area of the hospital.
