HAITI FEELING THE EFFECTS OF THE HURRICANES

Three people were killed on Thursday in Haiti as heavy rains stemming from the close passage of Hurricane Maria, lashed sections of the country.

The police said a 45 year old man drowned as he attempted to cross the Grand Ravine river and two people in the district of Cornillon were killed by lightning.

More than 30 people are said to have lost their lives in Puerto Rico and elsewhere in the Caribbean due to Hurricane Maria.

Meanwhile, the Turks and Caicos Islands are feeling some of Hurricane Maria’s wrath.

Hurricane warnings are in effect for the island and southeastern Bahamas.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for the central Bahamas.

Heavy rainfall is expected through Saturday.

In Turks and Caicos, 8 to 16 inches of rain are predicted.

Heavy rains are also expected in parts of the Dominican Republic, Haiti and the Bahamas.

A gradual weakening of Maria is forecast over the next two days. Maria is now a Category 3 storm.

Maria’s core will move away from the Turks and Caicos later on Friday and will pass northeast and east of the Bahamas through Sunday.
