HANOVER MURDERS HIT RECORD HIGH

Hanover has recorded the highest increase in murders across police divisions so far this year.

According to statistics provided by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for the period January 1 to June 3, thirty-two murders were committed in the parish compared to 13 during the corresponding period in 2016.

Hanover was followed by the Kingston Western division which recorded 20 more murders. There were 37 murders in the division and 17 last year.

There were also significant increases in the murder rate in the Kingston Eastern, St. Andrew North and South, St. Catherine North and Westmoreland divisions.

St. James recorded the highest number of murders overall.

Some 113 people died violently between January 1 and June 3. This was nine more than in 2016.

Murders in Portland remained unchanged for the period. There were two murders were committed in the parish.
