Concerned Drivers and other Concerned Staff of the JUTC. Demands closure and truth regarding a matter which involves one of our Single Operates from Portmore Depot and a Senior Supervisor and PNP Activist Sharon Sweeney of the Lyndhurst Road Depot. Whereby the company seemingly forced the Single Operator to resign without due process (evidence in question were not brought to the table and natural justice did not prevail.
Apparently due to the connection of the Senior Supervisor (whom have been dismissed at least 3 times due to problems with passengers, other staffs or managers). In addition matters surrounding integrity or nefarious activities usually to go on regular interdiction (unconnected to dismissal), but, somehow this said individual as always return to the job without any just reason for reinstatement.
Allegations are that a matter involving the supervisor came on various media stations, it was said that the driver deprived the company of revenue while operating the unit and that he also abandon the unit, this was based on reports made by the senior supervisor who embarked the unit with another junior staff on the day of Questioning, despite any unfounding allegation (which should have be proven) the driver in questioning should have been allowed due and fair process, to defend himself at a hearing. Instead it was immediately broadcasted that the driver had stolen money in the execution of his duty in the material time. Immediately the driver was encountered no prove has to guilty or innocence were distinct. Passengers reported that the supervisor was in the process of fighting the driver physically, assaulting him and threatening him this nearly caused a riot on the bus with the passengers. The passengers decided they would have none of the approaches been made towards the driver.
The supervisor became boisterous and regularly physical interfering with the driving process by standing beside and over the driver whilst the bus was in motion. It then cause severe obstruction for the driver resulting in near accidents. The driver had to regularly stop the unit as passengers converge near the driver’s ear where the supervisor was impeding the driver (the bus was in motion). In addition the passengers want to get to their destinations safely without incident or accident (injury).
Hence, the driver stop the bus secure the revenue, decide to disembarked the unit and allow another female JUTC driver who was on board to continue driving the unit. Instead of complying the senior supervisor fought the driver and assaulting him in the process, he did not retaliate (video evidence are there to prove). The supervisor also used her body to create a physical blocking effectively trying to prevent the driver from leaving the unit. He thought it necessary in order to quell the situation by cooling tempers and making the passengers and unit safer. Appropriately, he has a responsibility to remove the company’s revenues from the unit, which he did, and later paid over to the company (shorting only $130). The driver then ask the other female driver to continue drive while he proceed towards the Port more Depot.
This Senior Supervisor was never disciplined, never questioned, never brought to a hearing neither was she interdicted. Despite the company’s rule of the following:
1. Inciting a quarrel (amongst customers and workers, workers and workers or amongst passengers).
2. Causing or inciting a fight between customers and staff, staff and staff or amongst customers).
3. Failure to attend to customers needs.
Yet the driver was forced to resign based on prejudicial actions, no wonder the company is facing so many lawsuits such as: injures, accidents, wrong dismissals, accidental deaths also the company seem to be losing these lawsuits in the courts and paying hefty amount of revenues and tax dollars.
