FORMER Gaza Empire deejay Lisa Hyper was fined $27,000 and reprimanded by Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court in St Andrew, yesterday.

Lisa Hyper, 26, whose given name is Felicia Gooden, pleaded guilty with explanation to disorderly conduct and common assault following an altercation with Anna Kay Hamilton on June 2. Hamilton also pleaded guilty.

Both had been charged for assaulting each other in Stony Hill square, St Andrew.

They were slapped with the disorderly charge due to their rowdy behaviour and the use of expletives at the police station following their arrest. Both women were also involved in a spitting war.

In her defence, the entertainer said she was going through a rough period and that she was provoked by Hamilton’s friends.

“My father had a mental breakdown, and I had a nervous breakdown. I was provoked to wrath,” she said.

Wolfe-Reece was disgusted by Lisa Hyper’s response and said there was an increase in similar matters appearing before the court.

“I can’t understand what is happening to the women in our country. We are in crisis mode, you are going to risk a judge sending you to prison,” Wolfe-Reece said angrily.

“If I go outside and ask all the persons having a rough time to come forward, everyone would. You behave as if you people have a right to behave anyhow. Not even in the police station. We are in crisis… Nobody can make these decisions whether you are going to be a lady or a woman. No lawyer, nobody can make that decision for you. The only thing I can do is send you to prison and when the judge sends you to prison, people say the judge wicked.”

They were subsequently fined $25,000 each or three months in prison for common assault, and $2,000 each or 10 days for disorderly conduct.
