A man who pleaded guilty to hitting his 14-year-old daughter with a length of hose after he found out that she has a boyfriend was granted J$50,000 bail.
Delroy Thompson pleaded guilty with explanation to a charge of assault, and not guilty to cruelty to a child when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court recently.
Allegations are that on August 11, Thompson chained his daughter to a grille and used a length of hose to flog her.
According to Thompson, he was upset after the child’s mother showed him a number of pictures of the complainant with her alleged boyfriend.
Thompson, who wanted to explain the details, was advised by Magistrate Simone Maddix against disclosing his business in court.
“You will get a chance to speak with the probation officer,” Magistrate Maddix said.
However, the frustrated father told the court that he has been sending her to school from an early age and was astonished by what he saw in the cellular phone.
A social inquiry report was subsequently order into his background and an October 9, sentence date set.
Thompson was granted J$50,000 bail with one or two surety. He’s to report to the Olympic Gardens Police Station and is to surrender his travel documents as a part of his bail condition.
