Police charge man who attacked women

Charges have been laid against a 63 year old man who last month attacked two women leaving one dead.

The incidents took place in McCooks Pen and Mansfield Avenue in Spanish Town, St. Catherine.

Ernest Whyte, a construction worker of McCooks Pen, has been charged with murder, attempted murder, assault at common law and arson.

According to the Spanish Town Police, about 10 o’clock on the morning of September 14, Whyte and 47 year old Denise Bright of McCooks Pen were involved in an argument when he used a machete to chop her.

He fled the scene.

Bright later died.

A few hours later Whyte went to Mansfield Avenue and got into a dispute with another woman.He stabbed her with a knife and then set her house ablaze.

The fire was extinguished and the woman taken to the hospital.

Whyte was arrested later in the day.He was charged on Wednesday.

He is scheduled to appear before the St. Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday.
