MEN CHARGED WITH MARIO DEAN’S DEATH TO BE IN COURT OCT 12

October 12 has been set as the mention date for the case involving the inmates charged with the beating death of 31 year old Mario Deane while in police custody three years ago.

The matter came up in the St. James Circuit Court on Friday morning.

Lawyers representing the accused, Marvin Orr and Adrian Morgan, indicated to the court that they were experiencing difficulties taking instructions from their clients.

They told the court that the psychiatric report indicated that the men are fit to plea.

Orr and Morgan reportedly have a mental illness.

The other inmate charged in the case, Damion Cargill, who is hearing impaired, mute and also suffers from a mental illness is unfit to plea in the matter.

Lawyers for Orr and Morgan requested the medical log to ascertain whether they are receiving their medication.

Mario Deane, who was a construction worker, was taken into custody at the Barnett Street police station in St. James on August 3, 2014 for possession of a ganja spliff.

He died three days later in hospital after sustaining severe head injuries while in custody.
