A police constable was shot dead in Orangefield, Ewarton in St. Catherine early Tuesday morning.
He has been identified as Courtney Linton, who was attached to the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime branch.
A 21 year-old man was injured in the incident.
Constable Linton who was on suspension on a charge of murder was at a party, reportedly playing a sound system.
A group of men, traveling in a white Nissan car, stopped at the party. Two of the men reportedly pulled guns and opened gunfire sending patrons running for cover. Constable Linton was shot in the head. He died at the scene.
The 21 year old man, who was also shot, is being treated at hospital.
The police say Constable Linton was due to return to court next month in relation to his case.
His death comes only four days after a police corporal was fatally shot in Manchester.
