POLICE SHOOT THREE MEN IN ST JAMES

Three men were fatally shot when they reportedly confronted police officers during an operation in Amity Hall, Sunderland district in St James yesterday.

The identities of the deceased are still unknown.

Two semi-automatic pistols along with two 9mm rounds of ammunition were also seized in the aftermath of the shooting.

Reports are that about 5:45 am the lawmen were on operation in the area when they reportedly came under gunfire from a group of men.

The fire was returned, following that three unidentified men were found with gunshot wounds ; one Beretta 9mm pistol with a magazine containing one 9mm round of ammunition and another pistol — make and model unknown — with a magazine containing one 9mm round of ammunition were subsequently seized.

The men were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The matter was reported to the Independent Commissions of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate of Constabulary (IOC), the police have reported.
