POLICE WHO FLED JAMAICA ARRESTED AND CHARGED

A former member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force who fled the island ten years ago after a warrant was issued for his arrest for attempted murder, was charged on Wednesday.

Constable Mwando Pryce was charged Wednesday morning by detectives attached to the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI).

Constable Pryce, who reportedly fled to the United States in 2009, was deported in March this year after the local authorities requested his return.

During a bail hearing Wednesday morning before the St. Andrew Parish Court, INDECOM detectives opposed bail, claiming that the constable is a flight risk.

However, this was rejected by the policeman’s attorney, Vincent Wellesley.

Mr. Wellesley argued that when his client was deported in March, he was not arrested at the airport and has been at home.

The attorney said his client agreed to surrender to the BSI Wednesday morning when he was formally charged.

The bail hearing is to continue on Monday.

The presiding judge said she wanted a representative from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to explain the Crown’s position on the matter.

Investigators reported that in 2009, Constable Pryce was among a group of policemen and civilians who invaded a house in Stony Hill, St. Andrew, and robbed men believed to be involved in lottery scamming.

Following the robbery, it is alleged that the constable and his colleagues attempted to kill the civilian, who took them to the location, during a dispute over the sharing of the loot.

The civilian, who was shot nine times – twice in the head – survived after he was dumped in a gully off Waltham Park Road in St. Andrew.

He later identified the cops.

Two other policemen charged in the case were freed in December 2017 after the Director of Public Prosecutions entered a nolle prosequi.

  1. The DPP SEEMS TO BE , EITHER INCOMPETENT OR IS ENTIRELY CORRUPTED. . THERE ARE TOO MANY CASES WHERE VICTIMS HAVE IDENTIFIED THE ACCUSED AND YET STILL THEY ARE SET FREE BY DPP ON THE GROUNDS THAT THERE IS NO EVIDENCE.. OR IT MIGHT ALSO BE THE CASE THAT IT DUE TO THE POLICE OFFICERS WHO ARE INVOLVED IN THE CASE WHO MUCKED IT UP FROM THE START SO IT WOULD BE THROWN OUT, IF SO WHERE IS THE SENIOR POLICE WHO OVER LOOK THE CASE PRIOR TO IT BEING SENT TO THE DPP ? ANY WAY WE LOOK AT IT, THERE SEEMS TO BE CORRUPTION. THE DPP AND THE JUSTICE MINISTERS AND THE PM, SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE . SHOW THAT YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT SOLVING AND LOWERING THE CRIME RATE IN THE ISLAND.
