RAPE ACCUSED FREED OF CHARGES

A taxi operator who was accused of abducting a 14 year-old school girl and raping her was freed of the charges on Tuesday.

The 34 year-old taxi driver was found not guilty by a seven member jury for the offence of sexual intercourse with a person under 16.

Prosecutors led evidence that on March 4, 2014, the girl boarded a route taxi driven by the accused.

He allegedly abducted the child and took her to Golden Spring in St. Andrew where she was sexually assaulted.

The driver denied the allegations.

His attorney, Richard Lynch, urged the jury to dismiss the case based on discrepancies in the testimony of the complainant.

The jury deliberated for 40 minutes before reaching a unanimous verdict.
