Sex Offender Serving Nine Years In US Got Six Months In JA…For The Same Offence

The American man who is now serving a nine-year prison term in the United States (US) for molesting a six-year-old girl at a resort in western Jamaica was first given a six-month sentence by a Parish Judge in Montego Bay for the same offence, Jamaican authorities have revealed.

Douglas Peacock, 44, served the six months and was ordered deported, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has confirmed.

The disclosures comes as Jamaican law enforcement sources have revealed details of the disturbing June 21, 2017 incident for which Peacock, a resident of California, was twice sentenced.

According to the ODPP, Peacock was sentenced in the Montego Bay Parish Court on July 7 last year after he pleaded guilty to indecent assault.

The ODPP acknowledged that the maximum penalty for the offence is three years in prison, but said the American got credit for his early guilty plea, among other things.

The prosecutorial authority also revealed that it alerted the US Department of Homeland Security, through the US Embassy in Kingston, about Peacock’s conviction after a letter found in his possession at the time of his arrest indicated he was required to register as a sex offender in the US.

The stipulation stemmed from prior conviction in 2012 for a sex-related offence, sources said.

According to law enforcement sources, Peacock travelled to Jamaica on June 20 last year and booked into the all-inclusive resort.

The six-year-old American, who was vacationing with her family, was swimming in the hotel pool with her siblings and parents nearby when Peacock dove into the water. The child complained to her parents and hotel security that while under the water Peacock grabbed onto her swimsuit and fondled her.

The frightened child managed to get away from Peacock and ran to her parents to report the incident, sources said.

Law enforcement sources say the following day her parents saw a man acting suspiciously and following minors around the pool and called their daughter’s attention to him.

“The victim, upon seeing Peacock, grabbed her mother’s hand and identified him as the perpetrator. The victim’s step-father immediately accosted the man and punched him several times before they were separated by hotel security,” one source told The Gleaner.

Peacock initially denied the allegations, but later admitted that he lied, the source said

  1. There is something call sentencing guidelines that the justice system have to follow, unfortunately because he pled guilty the judge had to reduce his sentence. I believe he received the minimum sentence and could’ve gotten more, even considering the sentencing guidelines.

  2. He/they f*cked with the wrong one huh? Children’s lives are not valued in Jamaica from the government, to the community, trickle right down to some dutty parents.

  3. Ja is really a back in slavery days country I don’t know how people live there I’m so happy I don’t
