Gov’t Pays Damages To 82-Year-Old Woman Hit By Police Car Six Years Ago

Attorney General, Marlene Malahoo Forte, says damages have now been paid to Cecille Grey, the elderly Kingston woman who was left unconscious in hospital for a month after being hit by a police car.
The Sunday Gleaner reported yesterday that the 82-year-old woman, who is also deaf, has been left distressed by the incident which happened six years ago.
Grey said she was taking her granddaughter to school one December morning in 2010 when she was hit by the police vehicle at the school’s gate along Olympic Way in St Andrew.
She spent one month in the hospital unconscious and the next month at home recuperating.
The Government accepted liability and made an offer $2 million in compensation.

The offer was later reduced to $793, 940, which was accepted by Grey.
Yesterday, she complained about the long wait to get the money stressing that she continues to have mounting medical expenses related to accident.
This afternoon, Malahoo Forte, told The Gleaner Power 106 News Centre that the payment was expedited and that the money was deposited into Grey’s bank account today.
“It’s really unfortunate that The Gleaner had to carry the story but before the story was carried approval was given from the (Attorney General’s) chamber for the expedited payment,” Malahoo Forte said.
The attorney general also said the government continues to work on judgment payments to persons.
