Two members of the Duppy Film Criminal Gang who were charged under the Anti-gang legislation, have been freed.
Aaron Broomfield and Keron Eldermire were freed before the St Thomas Circuit Court last week after the trial judge upheld no case submissions by defence attorney Christopher Townsend.
Broomfield and Eldermire were held in a sting operation in St Elizabeth on April 23, 2017 during a manhunt for gang leader, Marlon “Duppy Film” Perry.
Prosecutors accused the men, particularly Mr Broomfield, of financing the criminal gang which was linked to a series of murders and shootings in St Thomas.
The men were held trying to collect money at a Western Union branch in St Elizabeth.
During his submissions, Mr Townsend argued that it was not a crime for someone to collect money at Western Union, adding that prosectors had failed to prove that the money was to finance the gang.
The judge agreed and ordered the men’s release.
However, Eldermire, who was described as a top tier member of the Duppy Film Gang, remains in custody as he’s to face other charges under the anti-gang act.
Marlon “Duppy Film” Perry was shot dead by the police on September 24, last year, in St Thomas.
