TWO WOMEN KILLED IN HANOVER

TWO women were killed mere hours apart in separate incidents in Hanover, between Thursday night and early yesterday morning.

The women, Ronda Smith, 38, and 58-year-old Barbara Gilpin, were both gunned down in their respective communities.

Smith, a businesswoman of Haughton district, Salt Spring, was shot dead in an incident which left four others injured.

Reports from the Green Island police are that about 10:25 pm, Smith and the four other individuals — including one female — were walking in a lane when they were pounced upon by two armed men who opened gunfire hitting them.

The five were taken to hospital where Smith was pronounced dead and the others admitted, the police said.

Since then, the police have said that detectives assigned to the Hanover Police division have been following strong leads into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Then about 12:25 am in Cousin Cove, Gilpin, who is from Newton in the area, was shot dead and a man injured in that incident.

Reports from the Lucea police are that residents heard explosions after midnight and alerted them.

On their arrival, the police said they saw Gilpin and the injured man, who both had multiple gunshot wounds.

They were taken to hospital where Gilpin was pronounced dead and the man admitted in stable condition, the police said.
